A Word from the Pastor - Crosses

I have on my wall and shelf various crosses. They all come from different places and people. Some have some size to them, while others are small. One was made from the mahogany that came from an old church organ and one from the teak decking of the battleship North Carolina. There is something uniquely different to each one of them and they all have a story to tell. They actually tell two stories, there is the story about how they came to me, which makes them different from each other. Then, there is the universal story that they tell. It is the story of God’s redeeming grace and love. They tell the story of the deity of Jesus Christ, of God in human form and the most incomprehensible way in which God chose to redeem humanity through a cross. While the cross was the vehicle of our redemption, it is also about the relationship that we have with the one that gave it to us.

Think about what God gave to us. When we receive something from someone, do we treasure what was given or do we treasure it because of who gave it to us? The truth is that we can treasure the gift and the giver. The cross speaks that language.

God's Peace,

Pastor Rusty
